Transition Home for Boys
In haiti, when a child ages out of an orphanage...
there is nowhere to go. A study by UNICEF found that 70% of children who age out of orphanages without a transition experience will be on the streets or dead within three years. Our goal is for the children of Emmanuel not only be prepared to live their lives outside the walls of their orphanage, but that they be prepared to be the future Christian leaders of Haiti.
In June 2017, the land pictured above was purchased...
to build a Transition Home for boys who age out of both Emmanuel and the Lundy Orphanage in Jeremie.
as of july 28, we were $14,000 short of being able to begin this project.
Through passionate teenagers, Adam Snider of Channel 2 News, a yard sale and sheer determination, the funds to build the home were raised in 9 days, and the construction of the home will begin shortly, giving these boys a chance to prepare for their future.
We had six boys age out of Emmanuel on June 30 of this year. They are still staying at the orphanage, but that is only temporary.
The transition home will prepare these boys to become successful, Christ-following adults, whether they go to University or learn a trade. A pastor and his wife will live at the home as house parents and implement a survival skills curriculum with the boys to prepare them with practical skills such as budgeting, how to use public transportation, public speaking, opening a bank account, manners and more.
thank you to those who have given...
To help make this home a reality, and help provide the survival skills necessary for them to be able to make their way in the world. This home is a long term solution to the Emmanuel children aging out in the years to come.
Additional funds will go towards bunk beds, mattresses and furnishings for the home.
The July team...
prays over the future site of the transition home for boys, asking God to provide for his children once again.
